“The motive for the murder is unknown and police are appealing to anyone who might have information about the incident to contact the Alberton SAPS or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111,” he said.

The teenager’s body was discovered by SPCA employees who alerted police. Ane was reported missing at the weekend. According to media reports, her bruised body was found near the soccer club in the Ekurhuleni town.

Her cosmetics bag was found a few metres from her body.

The teenager was reported missing on Saturday and her picture had been circulating on social media since the Pink Ladies organisation shared her poster.

The organisation raises awareness about missing children. Donni-ann Kleinhans wrote on the organisation’s Facebook page: “R.I.P. beautiful soul that was taken, she so gorgeous. My heart breaks for the family.”

Another Facebook user, Franciska Isaacs, said the death sentence should be brought back to prevent innocent people being murdered.

Several more said those responsible should be brought to justice and rot in jail.
