At 23h25 Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for a JMPD Metro police officer that had been struck by a vehicle at the Buccleuch Interchange on the N1 North.
Reports from the scene indicate that the officer had pulled over a vehicle when a Mercedes came hurling down the highway, hit the officer and then overturned. Exact detail to the crash will remain a subject for police comment.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the roadway littered with accident debris and the twisted frame of the Police vehicle, the twisted frame of the other vehicle had come to rest on its side in the centre median.
The officer was stabilised by the Emer-G-Med advanced Life Support paramedics at the scene and then Airlifted to a specialised hospital for the care that he required.
The driver of the Mercedes escaped with moderated injuries, he was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital by a private ambulance service.

The drunk man was taken to the Sunninghill Hospital to have blood drawn and locked up at Midrand Police Station for drunken and reckless driving. |
The officer was standing outside his patrol car on the side of the freeway and was writing out a traffic fine to another motorist when the drunk driver with a white Mercedes slammed into the patrol car , two female family members of the drunk driver who arrived on the scene also got arrested when they removed alcohol from his car.
