A taxi believed to have been transporting matric pupils from their dance in the early hours of this morning overturned on the M3 by Paradise Road in Claremont.
Sadly one patient died and 11 sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical.
ER24, Life Healthcare, Metro, Fire and Rescue as well as other services attended to the incident. Upon arrival they found the taxi on its roof. Patients were scattered across the scene. Sadly upon assessment of one of them found on the road, it was found that he sustained fatal injuries.
One of the patients attended to by ER24 paramedics was a man believed to be in his 30’s/40’s who was in a critical condition. He was treated and transported to Groote Schuur Hospital.
Four other patients were also transported to Victoria Hospital. The rest of the patients were transported to hospital by other services.
The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
