Update: Around 22h45 Sunday night, 01 May 2016, we were informed of an incident that occurred on the N1 opposite the Winelands Engen Service Station.
According to two of the nightshift workers of the Engen garage, a Man was hit by a car travelling on the N1. Allegedly, the vehicle did not stop after the pedestrian were run over, which makes this incident a Hit & Run. The pedestrian died on the scene. After the Police arrived on the scene they blocked off the one lane for traffic. Whilst blocking of the second lane so that traffic could be redirected via the Engen forecourt, a CRASH occurred which involved a car and a police vehicle. The vehicle that crashed into a police van, were on the scene.
"Something about this whole incident is bothering me, but can't really say! Accident occurred around 22h45. I arrived on the scene (you can see the video above & the screenshot of the time) around 01h22 this morning. You can see that there is no Ambulance on the scene. After I spoke to some nightshift workers, and after numerous failed attempts to get closer to the scene, I left. I took the first off-ramp which is Klipheuwel, and made my way back to Cape Town. As I passed the accident scene (this was now around 02h00) I saw a Ambulance just stopped. Both lanes on the N1 in the direction of Paarl were still closed at 02h00."
The N1 Crash & Incident was cleared & all lanes re-opened around 02h15.Unfortunately I don't have any further information on the Crash or on the people involved. Anyone with information welcome to comment.
