DRIVER FORTUNATE TO ESCAPE WITH MINOR INJURIES WHEN CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES

Last night at 23:20 while driving back to base on the N1 South from a call in Centurion EMER-G-MED's A01 saw what they believed to be a car on fire, on the N1 North between Allandale Road and New Road, in Midrand.

Medics immediately turned around and responded to the scene, arriving to find a car well alight in the fast lane of the highway. The driver was found sitting against the barrier a distance away, having sustained moderate injuries.

It's alleged that there was a slow moving petrol tanker in the middle lane, the driver of the car failed to see the truck until it was too late. He swerved, but clipped the truck - causing him to lose control and collide with the centre barrier.

The driver was fortunately able to escape the car before it became fully engulfed in flames.

Paramedics treated the patient on the scene before he.was transported to a nearby Trauma Centre for further management.

JMPD and other authorities were on-scene to investigate and clear the burnt-out vehicle from the highway.
