AA is Warning Motorists Travelling to KZN to take extra care as Heavy Weather is Expected

The Automobile Association (AA) is warning motorists travelling to KwaZulu-Natal from Sunday to Tuesday to take extra care as heavy weather is expected on sections of the route.

Mist & Sleet, causing poor visibility and dangerous conditions along N3 Route.

The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) earlier issued an advisory saying that the most recent communication from the South African Weather Services notes that heavy snowfalls are expected in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.

The N3TC notes: “With the increased possibility of snow‚ there is also a high likelihood that local residents and travellers may be snowed-in as roads may have to be closed in the interest of safety.” It has strongly advised motorists to avoid travelling to the area unless absolutely necessary.

“While this may sound like an exciting and adventurous outing for the family‚ things can go wrong quickly so we advise motorists to steer clear of the affected parts of the route unless there is a good reason to be there‚” the AA added.

Apart from checking weather conditions and warnings regularly‚ the N3TC has also advised motorists who do travel to the area to pack extra blankets‚ food and refreshments in the event they are caught in lengthy closures. People with medical conditions should ensure they travel with sufficient medical supplies.

The heavy weather may also affect communication systems‚ and all motorists are advised that should they travel to these parts‚ cellphone reception may be limited or unavailable.

Motorists can follow @N3TCRoute on Twitter or contact the N3TC’s 24-hour Customer Care Line on 0800 63 4357 for more information regarding the weather and road conditions on the route.
