JOHANNESBURG - Parliament, various government departments and political figures expressed shock and sadness at the passing of Minister Collins Chabane.
A statement issued by Parliament on Sunday said the dedication, humility and good humouredness Chabane displayed in carrying out the various responsibilities assigned to him will be greatly missed.
“Chabane had a long history of service to building our democracy.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” read the statement.
The Minister of Public Services and Administration died in a car crash in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was traveling with two bodyguards, Sergeant Lesiba Sekele and Sergeant Lawrence Lentsoane, when the accident occurred on the N1-26 between Mokopane and Polokwane.
The trio died on the scene.
Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased.
“We learnt with deep sadness of the passing away of two SAPS members who died alongside Minister Chabane while on duty.
“Sergeants Sekele and Lentsoane were dedicated members of the SAPS and the Ministry mourns their loss,” read a statement issued by the department.
