Viral Video of Incident at Boulders Shopping Centre in Midrand
The SA Human Rights Commission says it has instituted an investigation following an incident in which a mall manager requested a man dressed in traditional Ndebele attire to leave the Boulders Shopping Centre in Midrand.
In a video doing the rounds on social media, the manager can be heard telling the man earlier this week that he was not decently dressed.
The commission's Gauteng Provincial manager Buang Jones says they're anticipating a meeting with the mall management next week.
He says, "This is concerning because cultural practices and expressions are accorded full protection in our constitution.
We have not seen a lot of complaints pertaining to culture as the commission, but we are going to investigate this incident to see to it that the rights of Mr (Thando) Mahlangu are vindicated.
We will today visit the amaNdebele Traditional Authority in Tshwane to meet with him and leaders as part of our endeavours to resolve this matter."
