At 13h27 on Sunday afternoon Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for a collision on the N5 about eight Kilometres from Bethlehem in the direction of Kestel.
Reports from the scene indicate that a delivery vehicle collided into the side of a Mahindra passenger vehicle. Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events will form part of the police investigation.
Paramedics from Netcare, the provincial service and another private service arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of the vehicles at the side of the road on the verge; the delivery vehicle had overturned on impact and came to rest on its side.
Paramedics triaged the injured and found that three females two from the delivery vehicle and one from the passenger vehicle had sustained critical injuries. The male driver from the delivery vehicle miraculously escaped uninjured.
Medics stabilised the injured at the scene before they transported them to nearby hospitals for the care that required.
