He fled the scene after the bus, which was travelling to Cape Town from Park Station, collided with a vehicle and rolled over on the highway. The Johannesburg Metro Police Department confirmed on Tuesday that the driver had still not been tracked down.
JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said that the driver will be facing a charge of fleeing the scene of an accident. “There is a search for the driver of the Marcopolo bus who fled the scene last night where there was a major backlog on the M1 South,” Minnaar was quoted by Africa News Agency.
“Traffic had to be diverted … 32 passengers sustained minor injuries and four others suffered serious injuries,” the agency reported.
The bus is said to belong to Atlantic Charters and Tours, a Cape Town-based coach transportation services company.
