Petrol Prices

South African motorists will have to fork out an additional 88 cents for a litre of petrol from Wednesday (April 6, 2016), the Department of Energy said on Saturday.

The petrol price will cost R12.62 per litre in Gauteng, and includes a 30 cents a litre rise in the fuel levy announced by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan in his February budget. This represents a massive 7.5% increase from March, while wholesale diesel will rise nearly 10%, the energy department said.

PRICES AS FROM 6 APRIL 2016:

  • Petrol 95 – 88c/litre
  • Petrol 93 – 0.86c/litre
  • Diesel – 0.97c/litre
  • Gordhan noted in his budget speech in February that the general fuel levy will be raised by 30 cents/litre to R2.85/litre for petrol and R2.70/litre for diesel.
