Four people were killed in a crash involving only a taxi. The collision occurred earlier this morning on the corner of the R55 and Wierda Road in Centurion. It is believed that the taxi driver lost control of the vehicle which caused it to roll over the middle island into oncoming traffic.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found that four people were ejected from the vehicle and had sustained fatal injuries. Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for the patients and they were declared dead on scene.
Over and above the deceased patients, six other people were left with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. All patients were treated and transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
As the collision occurred in peak hour traffic, there were delays in the area and road users were urged to make use of alternative routes where possible. The cause of the collision remains unknown, local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
