The receipt came and it was R250 and the gent gave me R50 change.
If I did not ask for a receipt, the R50 would have gone to pocket as I accepted and trusted that he put in the full amount. The fuel pump is connected to the till system and can not be manipulated.
And yes, I did not look at the figures on the pump. My mistake.

CAPE TOWN: The price of all grades of petrol will drop by 20 cents a litre from Wednesday, 7 December.
The price of diesel (0.05 percent sulphur) will go down by 32 cents per litre and diesel (0.005 percent sulphur) by 31 cents per litre, according to the Energy Department.
The price of illuminating paraffin will drop by 28 cents per litre (wholesale) and by 38 cents per litre (single maximum national retail price (SMNRP), the department said in a statement on Saturday.
A slight improvement in the rand/dollar exchange rate and decreases in the price of crude oil had allowed for the price cuts, it said.
The maximum retail price for LPGas would drop by 17 cents per kilogram.
