Ga-Rankuwa is a township located about 37km north of Pretoria. Provincially it falls under Gauteng province, but it used to be under North West Province, as it belonged to Bophuthatswana, ruled by Lucas Mangope, during the apartheid years.
Marengwa Properties was established by the late Simon Marengwa in the year 1995. Wanting to leave behind a legacy, he purchased a small retail property in the township of Ga-Rankuwa from the North West Development Corporation (NWDC).
With a dream of transforming the property into a modern day complex he began what refurbishment he could with the minimal resources he had. Unfortunately his dream would be cut short by his tragic death in mid-1996.
Fast forward to the year 2013. Mathe Marengwa, Simon’s only son together with his mother Lorraine had the vision of transferring the asset left to them into a modern grocery store.
Having secured a rental agreement from Africa’s leading retailer to establish a Shoprite U-Save, construction was completed in April 2014 with the shop opening up in May of the same year.

I had to go to the bathroom at work to cry like a little bitch cause the pain was just too much.
3 Years on I never expected this building would make a 27 year old cry...but it did. "This shit is so personal, its not just a business, its my baby, my dream, my father's legacy....the shit that support my mom's and little sister!!!"
All that hard work, blood sweat and tears destroyed in a day... But we men, we pick up the pieces and move on.
Thanks people of Ga-Rankuwa, now I know where we stand!
