A 5-year-old boy has been killed and another injured this afternoon following a head-on collision between a SUV and bakkie on Ou Kaapse weg in Silvermine in the Western Cape.
ER24 paramedics, along with Metro and other services, arrived on the scene and found both vehicles off to the side of the road. It was found that both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage after colliding head-on.
On further inspection, paramedics found an unknown man performing CPR on a 5-year-old boy.
Paramedics immediately took over CPR as well as providing the child with advanced life support interventions.
Unfortunately, after one hour, no vital signs returned and the boy was declared dead on the scene.
One other boy, also aged 5-years-old, was assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries. He was treated and later transported to Red Cross Hospital for further treatment.
The male driver of the SUV as well as the driver of the bakkie was found to have escaped injury.
