Two people have been killed and four others injured, one critically, after two vehicles collided on the Hennemann Main Road in Hennemann, between Welkom and Ventersburg, in the Free State.
ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial services, arrived on the scene and found two wrecked light motor vehicle lying on the side of the road.
When paramedics inspected the occupants of the vehicles, they found that a man and woman had been in the first vehicle while two men and two women had been travelling in the second vehicle.
In the first vehicle, paramedics discovered that the man had sustained critical injuries while the woman showed no signs of life. Rescue services rapidly extricated the woman and initiated CPR and advanced life support interventions in an effort to return her vital signs. Unfortunately, after 15 minutes, no vital signs returned and the woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
In the second vehicle, paramedics found a man lying trapped inside the vehicle with numerous injuries. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the critically injured man from the first vehicle. Once freed, paramedics provided the patient with numerous advanced life support interventions.
In the second vehicle, another man and two women were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries. All the patients were treated and later transported to Bongaan Hospital for urgent treatment.
The exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
