Scores of people have been injured after multiple crashes in and around Durban CBD on Saturday night. Rescue Care Paramedics were kept extremely busy the entire night.
The intersection of Smith Street and Brook Street saw two collisions take place during the course of the evening. In the first collision just after 9pm Rescue Care Paramedics arrived to find two vehicles had collided, a total of twelve people had sustained various injuries and were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.
In the second collision at the same intersection just after 03:30am Paramedics found four people injured as one of the vehicles rolled. After stabilising the injured they were transported to nearby hospitals.
In Major Calvert Road in Wentworth two vehicles collided leaving one man with serious injuries. Rescue Care Paramedics responded just after 7pm to assist. The patient was stabilised on scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.
A five car pile occurred at the intersection of Alpine Road and Umgeni Road just before 7pm. One patient was stabilised on scene after suffering moderate injuries before being transported to a nearby hospital.
Just after 8:30pm a foreign student was knocked down by a vehicles in Florida Road near Gordon Road intersection. The patient had suffered moderate injuries and was stabilised by Rescue Care Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care.
Just after 10:20pm two vehicles collided at the intersection of Leopald St and Russel Street. Paramedics found that five patients had suffered various injuries. Once all had been stabilised on scene they were then transported by ambulances to various hospitals for further care that they required.
Shortly after midnight Paramedics attended to a collision at the intersection of West Street and Aliwal Street. On arrival Paramedics found that six people had sustained various injuries. Once all the injured had been stabilised on scene they were transported by Rescue Care ambulances to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required.
Just after 06:30am Rescue Care Paramedics responded to another collision, this time at the corner of Smith St and Gardiner Street. On arrival Paramedics found the two badly damaged vehicles in the junction.
Two patients had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals for the further care that they required.
SAPS, Metro Police and the Durban Fire Department were on all scenes and will be conducting the necessary investigations into the causes of the collisions.
