PASSENGER KILLED IN CRASH WHEN PUSHING BROKEN DOWN VEHICLE ON N12 BEFORE EDENVALE

Yesterday afternoon EMER-G-MED paramedics were on stand-by at the Sasol garage on North Reef and AG De Witt, when they were approached by the member of the public to inform them of a serious crash on the N12 before Edenvale, east of Johannesburg.

Paramedics immediately rushed to the scene, arriving minutes later. It’s alleged that a vehicle had broken down.

The passengers and driver got out in order to push it to the emergency lane, but as they got out their vehicle was hit by another car. One passenger was hit by the car and was thrown under a passing bakkie, trapping the passenger beneath vehicle.

Unfortunately on arrival paramedics found that the passenger had already succumbed to his injuries. He was declared dead on the scene.

While paramedics were on the scene the driver of the car started to complain of chest pain, and started developing typical “heart attack” symptoms.

The driver was stabilised on the scene before being transported to hospital under Advanced Life Support care. The passenger’s body was extricated from underneath the bakkie, with assistance from Primrose Fire and a First Road towing vehicle.

EMPD’s specialist Accident Investigation Unit were on the scene to conduct a full investigation.
